District 1 and 3, that cater specifically to tourists and visitors. Most tourist attractions and nightlife events occur in these neighborhoods, making them some of the best options for visitors to stay. There are museums, shopping complexes, bars, and clubs, among many other activities. District 5 on the other hand, caters to the local Vietnamese people but is close to the airport.

In the main tourist areas of the city, transportation is easily accessible. Between the popular districts, everything is within walking distance. If you choose to venture beyond these areas it is recommended to hire transportation. The city is home to a convenient, cheap, and efficient public transportation system. Visitors should also choose to stay in Pham Ngu Lao if you are looking to be central. This neighborhood is not only in the middle of the city but also in the middle of the tourist area.

District 3 is unique for its authentic Vietnamese feel. Saigon, although it is the biggest city in Vietnam, is far from dangerous. There are no specifically dangerous areas in Ho Chi Minh City, however, it is important to be aware of your surroundings. Like in most cities around the world, the danger you subject yourself to is limited to your awareness. The easiest way to protect yourself from danger is to be informed and aware. There is no shortage of tourist scams to be aware of when visiting a new country, and there is no harm in buying a protective money belt to fight against petty theft.

However, there are plenty of areas in the city that are “empty” or of no value to the majority of tourists. The main districts to visit are District 1,3, and 5. Beyond these districts exists the rest of the city catering in majority to the local people. There is no need to venture beyond the touristic areas unless you intend to explore the local scene. When choosing accommodation it is wise to refrain from these areas unless you want to be spending the majority of your time in a taxi.

There are attractive accommodation options for couples throughout the city. There is no one area that is more romantic than the others. However, for the best views, experience, and it’s convenient location it is also recommended for couples to stay in District 1.

This area of the city is catered more towards the Vietnamese local people and there is hardly any western influence. This area is the perfect place for travelers to try home-cooked Vietnamese dishes and practice your Vietnamese!
